ASTM A335 P12 steel pipe is a low carbon steel containing elements such as carbon, manganese, phosphorus, sulfur, silicon, chromium and molybdenum. Its carbon content is a maximum of 0.015%, so it falls into the category of low carbon steel. Nominal bore diameters range from 1/8NB to 24NB, wall thicknesses range from 2mm to 14mm, and external dimensions range from 19.05mm to 114.3mm. This pipe falls under the large diameter pipe size category and is available in single random, double random or cut length sizes up to 16000mm. There are different pipe ends such as threaded pipe, plain end pipe and bevel end pipe.
P11 and P12 alloy steel pipes differ in chemical composition. P11 contains up to 1.25% chromium and up to 45% molybdenum, while the P12 grade contains up to 1% molybdenum in its composition. The strengths of both grades are 415MPa minimum tensile strength and 205MPa minimum yield strength.
In order to improve the hardness of alloy steel P12 pipe, heat treatment methods such as complete or isothermal annealing, normalizing and tempering can be used. These heat treatment methods can change the microstructure and properties of the material, thereby increasing the material's hardness and strength.
