What is a honed tube and what are its uses?
A honed tube (also called honed tubing) is a seamless steel tube whose internal bore has been precision-finished by honing or skiving & roller burnishing, giving a controlled inside diameter (typically ISO H8, optionally H9) with a smooth, oil-retaining surface of Ra 0.2–0.4 µm. Supplied in IDs from about 40 mm to 500 mm and lengths to 12 m, it arrives ready to receive a piston and seal — no further boring required. What decides whether a cylinder leaks or lasts is not the steel grade alone but three bore attributes: tolerance class, surface finish, and straightness.
